Fundraising@PSO: An Overview and Guide to Being Involved
Join the development team from the Office of the Vice President for Public Service and Outreach as they present updates on the current fundraising projects across the division. Explore how PSO staff can contribute to these initiatives. The session will offer insights into how current fundraising efforts are conducted and provide information on how everyone can support the growth of PSO’s programs.

Presenters:

Anne Moser, Senior Director of Development, Office of the Vice President for Public Service and Outreach, University of Georgia
Anne Moser leads the development team that works with all PSO units to secure funding from individuals, companies and foundations. The PSO development team drives all phases of the fundraising process from identifying opportunities, building relationships, drafting and editing proposals, submitting requests, tracking development activity and providing stewardship reports to donors. Working closely with unit communication, finance and leadership teams, Moser is responsible for guiding the development strategy for PSO. Moser has over 25 years of experience in higher education fundraising. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Trinity College (CT) and a master’s degree from Northeastern University (MA).

Shirley Allen, Associate Director of Development, Office of the Vice President for Public Service and Outreach, University of Georgia
Shirley Allen is the associate director of development for Public Service and Outreach. She works alongside the PSO development team to develop fundraising strategies that connect individual, corporate, and foundation prospects with PSO’s mission, resulting in a significant expansion of PSO’s donor engagement and philanthropic support.
Her responsibilities include managing annual giving campaigns, creating compelling proposals, presenting development goals to faculty and leadership and overseeing stewardship and sponsorship strategies. Under her leadership, in-house fundraising appeals have seen over a 770% increase in dollars raised since FY22. Allen also supervises the development coordinator and assists in the strategic growth and structure of the PSO development team. Allen brings a deep background in donor relations, proposal writing and stakeholder engagement through prior roles in regional engagement at UGA and in the financial sector with Synovus. She holds a bachelor’s degree in communication studies from UGA.

Johnathon Barrett, Director of Development, State Botanical Garden of Georgia, University of Georgia
Johnathon Barrett has served as the director of development for the State Botanical Garden for the past three years. A 1986 graduate of Georgia Southern University with bachelor’s degrees in accounting and finance, Barrett became a CPA in 1994 and has more than 25 years in nonprofit management experience. Prior to his position at the Garden, he served as executive director of the Georgia 4-H Foundation as well as the vice president of statewide operations for Junior Achievement of Georgia. A native of Perry, Barrett is a seventh-generation Georgian, and a writer in his spare time; he has penned three cookbooks all published by Mercer University Press and most recently “Ship Watch,” a fiction novel set in Savannah.
