This course will give you the information you need to successfully operate
a Global Positioning System (GPS) using Windows CE and new GPS technology.
It is designed for GPS beginners but is also a great refresher course
if you have been using GPS but are not utilizing the full functionality
of the system. You will collect data in the field and then process that
data on a computer.

There will be several GPS units available for use in the course. To get
the maximum benefit from this course, please bring your own unit if you
have one.

Brian Holley, sales manager for LandMark Systems, a leading provider
of GPS/GIS mapping services, has instructed over 500 foresters on the
use of GPS/GIS. Previously, a procurement forester for T&S Hardwoods,
he has been a guest speaker at numerous Society of American Forester meetings.
Darian Yawn, the technical support manager for LandMark Systems,
specializes in GPS/field inventory hardware, software, and training. He
has extensive experience in the application of GPS/GIS technology in land
management and procurement operations.

The fee for
this course is $495, which includes lunch, refreshment breaks, and instructional
materials. There is a $30 discount for fees paid by check or credit card
and postmarked by October 1, 2003. Preregistration must be accompanied
by check, purchase order, or credit card number to guarantee a place in
the course. Limited seating is available.

The Georgia Center for Continuing Education, a unit of the University
of Georgias Office of the Vice President for Public Service and
Outreach, provides university-level lifelong learning and professional
education. The Georgia Center is a full-service, residential adult-learning
facility on the campus of the University of Georgia. A modern 200-bedroom
hotel, dining services, conference rooms, auditoriums, library, and computer
labs are combined in one smoke-free facility.

Course Registration
Lunch, instructional materials, and refreshment breaks are included in
your registration fee. Prepayment is required to be registered. If invoicing
is required, the Georgia Center will issue and process an invoice at the
highest fee listed.
Lodging
A block of rooms is being held for your conference until 5 p.m. ET,
October 1, 2003 at the Holiday Inn Express ($74.00).
Indicate lodging preference on the registration form. A credit card is
required to make your reservation at the Holiday Inn Express. Your card
will be charged one night's lodging if you do not cancel by 4:00 p.m.
24 hours prior to your arrival date.
Transportation
All flights into Athens connect through Charlotte, NC. Regular ground
transportation is available from Atlantas Hartsfield International
Airport to the Georgia Center. A map, parking information, and further
details will be mailed to you with your conference confirmation. Directions

A parking deck is located adjacent to the Center. Vans and other vehicles
over seven feet tall cannot fit in the deck, but arrangements can be made
for alternative parking.
Program Cancellation Policies
(1) We will gladly issue full refunds for cancellations made by 5 p.m.
ET, October 2, 2003. Substitutions are encouraged. (2) If a program
is cancelled for any reason, the Georgia Center will not be responsible
for any cancellation changes/charges assessed by airlines or travel agencies.
(3) If for unforeseen and unavoidable circumstances an instructor is unable
to attend, the Georgia Center reserves the right to substitute a comparable
instructor.

This
optional one-hour course focuses on case studies to illustrate the place
of ethics in the practice of forestry. It meets the ethics requirement
for registered foresters in Georgia.
