Learning Objectives

Outreach Scholarship Conference 2005 is designed to engage participants on several levels. For those new to the idea of the scholarship of engagement, the conference will help shape an understanding of the concept by providing examples of the scholarship of engagement. For those already grounded in their understanding of the definition and practice of the scholarship of engagement, the conference will further the national dialogue about:

 •  the scholarship of engagement as an integral and enriching component of faculty and university work,

 •  the relationship of the scholarship of engagement to other components of faculty and university work (in particular teaching and research),

 •  research on the scholarship of engagement, and

 •  the role of universities as "engaged institutions" in twenty-first century society.
