2. Learn the latest information to support outreach programming. From trends and practices in service learning to the rise of global learning experiences, practical applications to successful outreach initiatives already implemented by fellow practitioners of outreach and engagement, learn what your colleagues are doing to transform our world through positive collaborations between higher education and our communities.

3. Get motivated! Take this opportunity to renew your commitment to providing lifelong learning opportunities. The motivation of this conference is to provide encouragement to others in the public service, outreach, and engagement arenas. While political, economic and societal issues will always exist, just remember your work can change and even transform the world.

4. Networking. This conference gives participants the opportunity to network with experienced faculty, staff, and students in public service, outreach and engagement arenas from all over the nation. From plenary sessions to dinners at the legendary Sanford Stadium and the State Botanical Gardens of Georgia, there are numerous opportunities to meet people who represent the vast spectrum of higher education programming, services, resources and more.

5. Experience the Classic City! Be sure to take advantage of the optional tours of the University of Georgia campus and downtown Athens, home to the championship-winning Georgia Bulldogs, a world-renowned music scene, historic architecture, fabulous restaurants, and much, much more.

Invitation to the Conference

We are pleased to invite you to the fifth annual Outreach Scholarship Conference, which will be held October 2-4, 2005 on the University of Georgia campus in Athens, Georgia. The theme for this year's conference is "Transformation through Engagement." The conference offers an opportunity to explore the impact that institutions of higher education can have on transforming higher education through the scholarship of engagement, and transforming communities through collaborations with partners in education, businesses, public service and social service. The sessions, representing presenters from nearly 40 different institutions, will bring a variety of perspectives to the discussion of the role higher education plays in society.

We are proud that the University of Georgia will host the conference for the first time. On behalf of each of the sponsoring institutions, we hope you will join us in Athens for this outstanding opportunity to share and to learn.

A Message from Michael Adams

Your host

The Conference will be held at UGA's Georgia Center for Continuing Education. Thanks to the generosity of the Kellogg Foundation (In 1984, the Kellogg Foundation's second grant to The University of Georgia assisted in the expansion of the facility and with program development), the Georgia Center has been, and continues to be, a leader in the field of adult education and lifelong learning. The mission of the Georgia Center, as it was in 1957, is to serve the learning needs of adults and organizations while providing leadership to the profession of continuing education. In meeting these needs, the Georgia Center is preparing the citizens of Georgia and beyond to meet the challenges of a highly dynamic society.

Welcome to the Georgia Center!
