Why Athens?

  • The South has become the timber and wood products basket of the U.S.
  • Over 60% of wood fiber tonnage in the U.S. is harvested in the South.
  • Predominately private forest lands, but radically changing ownership patterns
  • Panel plants, engineered wood products plants are popping up all over the South. Athens is central to it all.
