7th International Symposium on Avian Influenza: Avian Influenza in Poultry and Wild Birds

The 7th International Symposium on Avian Influenza will be held at the University of Georgia Center for Continuing Education, Athens, Georgia, USA, on April 5-8, 2009. Oral and poster presentations will focus on poultry and wild birds including pathobiology, virus reservoirs and ecology, molecular basis of virulence, vaccines and diagnostics, phylogenetics and molecular epidemiology, risk assessment, transmission, national and international control strategies, economics, updates on recent highly pathogenic avian influenza outbreaks and impact on human health with a focus on occupational and exposure risks.

Manuscript Submission

General Information For Presenters

  • The accepted oral papers will be for 12 minute presentations (strict time limitation). Use Microsoft PowerPoint or a compatible program.
  • Please remember that posters will be displayed in a vertical format with a maximum size of 3ft (91cm) wide by 5ft (152cm) tall. Horizontally oriented posters will not be accommodated. Poster Session A will be April 5th and 6th. Set-up for poster session A will be 2:00-3:30 PM Sunday April 5th and poster removal will be 5:00-6:00PM Monday, April 6th. Poster Session B which will be April 7th and 8th. Set-up for poster session B will be 7:00-8:00 AM Tuesday April 7th and poster removal will be 12:00-1:00PM Wednesday, April 8th.
  • You have the option to submit a manuscript to Avian Diseases, an international poultry health journal, which will be peer-reviewed and published in the proceedings that will be a supplemental issue of Avian Diseases. Submit your manuscript directly to Avian Diseases online by April 1, 2009 at http://aviandiseases.allentrack.net/cgi-bin/main.plex. Note: during the submission process on the first page, mark the circle for either Regular Article or Research Note and click (continue). On the manuscript Information Tab, 3rd page under Special Issue pull down menu, be sure to select "7th International Symposium on Avian Influenza."

A block of rooms is being held for your conference until 5:00 p.m. ET, March 13, 2009. Policies: (1) Tax Exemption — The State of Georgia only allows tax-exempt charges for a payment by a state-issued credit card or check or by a direct bill to a state agency (with a Georgia State Tax Exemption Certificate). (2) Lodging Cancellation — Cancel your reservation by 4:00 p.m. ET the day prior to your scheduled arrival to avoid being charged one night's room and tax. (3) At check-in, you must present your credit card or a completed credit card authorization form (for a copy, call 800-884-1381, Mon.-Fri., 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. ET). Note: The Georgia Center is a smoke-free building; all lodging rooms are nonsmoking.

Travel Information:
Athens, Georgia, is located about 60 miles northeast of Atlanta. For directions, see www.georgiacenter.uga.edu/conferences/about/directions.phtml. A parking deck is located adjacent to the Center (hourly rates, maximum $10 each 24-hour period; vehicle height limit, 7 feet). Athens is served by two airports. Athens-Ben Epps Airport offers connecting flights to and from Charlotte, NC. Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is located about 90 minutes southwest of Athens, with scheduled ground shuttle service and rental car service available between the airport and the Georgia Center.

Program Cancellation Policies:
(1) Full refunds are available for cancellations made by 5:00 p.m. ET, March 20, 2009. No refunds will be issued thereafter; substitutions will be allowed. (2) If a program is cancelled for any reason, the Georgia Center will not be responsible for any charges related to travel.
