BioHealthBase Workshop — The BioHealthBase (BHB) Bioinformatics Resource Center
(www.biohealthbase.org) provides database infrastructure for research on Influenza virus and four other human pathogens (Francisella tularensis, Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Microsporidia species and Ricinus communis). The BHB was developed as a comprehensive resource to collect, analyze, annotate, store, query, view and display genomics, protein structure, protein function, metabolic and signaling pathway and polymorphism information. Recently, BHB began a collaboration with the six U.S. Centers of Excellence for Influenza Research and Surveillance (CEIRS). As part of this collaboration BHB supports the management, analysis and public dissemination of influenza avian surveillance collected in the CEIRS program. Avian surveillance data is integrated with virus strain characterization information obtained from influenza positive sample, including virus genome sequence data. Additionally, BHB now holds primary data and integrated analysis tools for laboratory experiment and clinical vaccine trials data. Thus, the BHB provides a comprehensive resource for data related to influenza virus surveillance, as well as basic and clinical research. All influenza research data in BHB are publicly available to the scientific community, with no restrictions on their use. All influenza researchers are encouraged to submit influenza research data to BHB for data sharing and public dissemination. BHB is funded through the NIAID contract N01AI40041.
