"In a time of turbulence and change, it is more true than ever that knowledge is power."
President John F. Kennedy made this statement more than 30 years ago. Even today, no single quality is more important to effective leadership in the global marketplace than knowledge. The effects of globalization are posing the greatest challenges ever faced by educators, organizational managers, and public policy officials. Leaders today must be creative thinkers with strong skills in communication and negotiation. They must master the principles of managing for quality and developing human resources in an international environment. Perhaps most importantly, they must understand the strategic forces that will continue to mold the global village into the 21st century.
The University of Georgia Center for Continuing Education and The University of Oxford, England, Department for Continuing Education will present the second annual International Institute for Leaders July 30 through August 12, 1995. This dynamic program, with world-class presenters and informative sessions on global trends and issues, will be held at both universities -- the first week in Georgia and the second in England. Participation will be limited to 35 individuals representing leaders in higher education, private enterprise, and government.
During the first week, instruction will take place at The University of Georgia Center for Continuing Education in Athens, Georgia. The venue will then shift to the oldest English-speaking university in the western world, The University of Oxford in Oxford, England, and its historic Wadham College. In addition to the interaction with content experts, there will be ample opportunity to sample the rich cultural offerings of Oxford and of other parts of the United Kingdom.
Because it is held at two very different universities on opposite sides of the Atlantic, the International Institute for Leaders will challenge and broaden global perspectives.
A distinguished faculty will examine international issues from four major approaches:
On Friday, August 4, ground transportation will be provided to Atlanta for a flight to England. Coaches will meet the party at Gatwick Airport for transportation to Oxford on the morning of Saturday, August 5. In Oxford, participants will stay at The Randolph, a dramatic four-star property in City Centre, Oxford. Since its opening in 1866, The Randolph, with its neo-Gothic exterior, has been at the center of Oxford life.
Participants will be free to tour the city or relax until Sunday evening, August 6, when an opening reception will begin the second week of the Institute. An afternoon and evening have been reserved for a trip to Stratford-upon-Avon where participants will have dinner and attend a play at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre. On Saturday, August 12, coaches will depart for Gatwick Airport for a flight back to Atlanta. Participants may opt to extend their visit in Europe.
