Spring 1996
As part of the Georgia Center's conferencing and programming activities, the Department for Program and Conference Development, in support of the Georgia Center Mission "...to serve the learning needs of adults and organizations and to provide leadership in developing the theory and practice of continuing education," coordinates hundreds of conferences, seminars, short courses, and workshops on a broad range of topics each year, both on-campus and off-campus. Program and Conference Development works closely with faculty and staff within The University of Georgia to develop and deliver high quality educational programming.

- Faculty Spotlight
- University of Georgia agronomist Keith J. Karnok is featured in this quarter's "Faculty Spotlight." A professor in UGA's Department of Crop and Soil Sciences, Karnok developed the very successful independent study course Principles of Turfgrass Management with the Georgia Center's Department of Community Learning Resources.
- "I've Been Thinking..."
- Brad Cahoon, Georgia Center coordinator for technology-based instruction, considers the history, present status, and some future possibilities of the World-Wide Web in higher and continuing education.
- Awards and Recognition Program
- The Georgia Center's Seventh Annual Awards and Recognition Program concluded with a ceremony in December. The awards given and those recognized.
- Electronic Office, International Education
- Martyn J. Miller, head of UGA's American Language Program, discusses the rise and uses of the Internet in international education, from initial contacts with students, to correspondence across the globe, to conducting surveys. From Miller's presentation at the Fifth Annual Conference of OSEAS (Overseas Educational Advisors) -- Europe, held in Athens, Greece last year.
- ALP Graduate Teaching Assistant Receives Award for Multimedia Software
- Nancy Heiges' "The Mysterious Hitchhiker" uses urban folklore to teach English as a second language.
