WUGA-FM Special Events
New Series of Live MusicOn March 25, 2001, WUGA-FM debuted an exciting new series of live music. The first edition of "Athens Live" featured a live broadcast performance by David Starkweather, a professor in The University of Georgia's School of Music and a few of his students. Oliver Messiaen's "Quarter for the End of Time" was the featured selection with Starkweather on cello, Kristen House on clarinet, Sara Lee on violin, and Mark Polesky on piano.The free concert was held in Hugh B. Masters Hall at the Georgia Center for Continuing Education. Future "Athens Live" programs are in the works. The next broadcast welcomes singer/songwriter Heidi Hensley of Athens, July 15, 2001, 7:00 p.m.
Spring Outdoor ConcertWUGA-FM hosted its first Spring Outdoor Concert on May 11, 2001, at Heritage Park in Oconee County, Georgia, just southwest of Athens. Performers included Redneck GReece Deluxe, The Solstice Sisters, Old Dogs New Tricks, and Doc Johnson's Traveling Medicine Show. On hand also were many of WUGA's on-air personalities.A community outreach event, this was the station's first Spring Outdoor Concert. Portions of the performances were taped for possible broadcast at a later date.
"Once in a Blue Moon" Returns!Mark your calendars! "Once in a Blue Moon," WUGA-FM's live variety show, is scheduled for August 24, 2001, 7:30 - 10:00 p.m. The line-up of performers for the show, this year celebrating WUGA-FM's 14th anniversary of broadcasting, is being finalized now.
