NUCEA Region III

Georgia Center Hosts NUCEA Region III Conference

The Georgia Center will host the National University Continuing Education Association Region III annual meeting September 24-26, 1995. Continuing educators from across the South will hear about "Revitalization: Exploring New Options," the conference theme this year.

"How do we find a niche in the university and higher education community amidst technological advancements? That's what we're focusing on," said Suzanne Logan, associate director of the Division of Continuing Education at Texas Tech, who is serving as conference chair of the planning committee for this year's meeting. The planning committee has designed a varied program, with sessions of particular interest to administrators, program planners, and newcomers.

Conference topics and highlights are to include: sessions on accessing the World Wide Web for programming ideas, the value of visioning in managing change, the use of various media in the classroom, and profiles of the "evening classes" student. The three-day conference will feature a "town hall" meeting about NUCEA and a poster session on program ideas and technological innovations. Keynote speakers will address the future, technology, and trends in adult and continuing education. There will also be a "newcomers' breakfast" to welcome those who are attending their first Region III meeting.

In deciding the theme, the Region III planning committee discussed the recent book, The Monster Under the Bed: How Business is Mastering the Opportunity of Knowledge for Profit, by Stanley M. Davis, and the February 28, 1995 Newsweek cover story on technomania. And in an effort to ease travel plans for those who attend, this year's meeting is to be held Sunday through Tuesday instead of the usual Wednesday through Friday format of years past.
