The
Strategic Plan of the Georgia Center for Continuing Education includes
several sweeping initiatives10-year proposalsthat will
greatly enhance the University of Georgias ability to serve
the people of Georgia and beyond. Elements of the four initiatives,
outlined below, are underway in various forms.
(1)
Institute for Strategic Issues
Providing outstanding programs for adults and organizations, the
Institute for Strategic Issues will bring together leaders and policymakers
from all places in society for discussions of the challenges and
issues of our time. The Institute is to be housed in a state-of-the-art
retreat facility designed to enhance the educational experience
of program participants.
(2)
School for Continuing Studies and Professional Education
Working with the Universitys provost, vice president for public
service and outreach, vice president for instruction, and various
colleges and schools, the Georgia Center continues to pursue the
school of continuing studies concept and is significantly
involved in the University initiative to provide academic credit
courses to nontraditional students.
(3) Transformation of the Georgia Center into a Center for the
21st Century
Effort continues toward these strategic priorities. The Center for
the 21st Century will be the product of timely physical and technological
upgrades and improvement designed to meet the changing learning
needs and styles of adults. The latest advances in educational programming
and design will be incorporated as well. Gradual, incremental improvements
each year are enabling the Georgia Center to realize these goals.
(4)
Expand Distance Education Activities at the Georgia Center
Initially, these new efforts will be geared to assure University
interface with the Georgia G.L.O.B.E. (Global Learning Online for
Business and Education) initiative of the University System of Georgia
Board of Regents, which is designed to increase access to System
courses and degree programs through distance education, especially
for students who cannot attend traditional classes on a college
campus.
