Registration Orientation
Welcome to Independent and Distance Learning (IDL).
Before you register for your course, please take some time to read this orientation section. The next three pages highlight issues that will be important to you as you proceed through the course. We strongly encourage you to pay attention to the information given.
Please proceed through the orientation by clicking the "next" link at the bottom of each page once you have read that page. The course registration form is available at the end of the orientation.
Because this orientation does not cover every specific issue, we also encourage you to read the Student Handbook that you will receive with your course materials.
We want to serve you in all stages of your Independent and Distance Learning experience, from registration to final exam completion. Please feel free to contact us at any time with questions or concerns.
What does it mean to be an independent learner?
Independent and Distance Learning is a "distance learning" opportunity that allows you to study outside the confines of a classroom. You will set your own schedule, working on your own time and at your pace. Don't worry, you will have opportunity for interaction and feedback with your professors. The faculty expectations are as high as in a regular class, so be prepared to demonstrate what you learn, not just copy the text.
Because of the flexibility of the courses, Independent and Distance Learning students must motivate themselves to keep up with their studies. Your professors and the staff members in the Independent and Distance Learning office can help you design a schedule to finish your assignments in a timely manner. We suggest that you begin your course right away and proceed at a regular pace.
