Eligibility Requirements
A final examination is required of all students seeking academic credit.
No exceptions will be made to this policy. A student must spend a minimum
of eight weeks (56 calendar days including the registration date) from
the registration date in an Independent and Distance Learning course before requesting
the final examination. The final examination may be taken only after all
other requirements have been met (all lessons received, all incomplete
lessons resubmitted and received, final examination request form received
by Independent and Distance Learning, etc.).
In some Independent and Distance Learning courses, a midterm examination is required. A student must have submitted lessons according to the course guide instructions to be eligible to schedule the midterm examination. A number of factors should be considered before scheduling the midterm and final examinations. These should also be kept in mind when attempting to meet deadlines for graduation or eligibility requirements for an academic term. The following procedures apply to both midterm and final examinations:
-
Midterm examinations should be scheduled as directed in the course guide.
-
Eight weeks (56 days, including the registration date) is the minimum time a student must be enrolled in a course before requesting the final examination. The final examination must be completed on or before the course expiration date.
-
All lessons must be received by Independent and Distance Learning prior to scheduling the final examination and submitting the final examination request form. All lessons must be eligible for grading according to the lesson schedule on or before the day of the examination.
-
The final (or midterm) examination request form must be received by Independent and Distance Learning at least 10 days prior to the scheduled examination date. Allow sufficient time for mail delivery. Students residing outside the United States should consider submitting the form via fax (706-542-9012) or international air mail.
-
Three weeks or more may elapse before graded examinations are returned to Independent and Distance Learning and grades are reported to the University of Georgia Registrar's Office. Students should plan their schedules so that they will complete all requirements, including the final examination, at least 30 days before they wish to use the credit (i.e., grade posted on UGA transcript).
