Course Grades
Upon completion of an Independent and Distance Learning course, the student will receive a grade (A, B, C, D, or F) that will be recorded on the student's permanent record by the University of Georgia Registrar's Office. (Completion of a course occurs when all required lessons and examinations have been graded and reported by the instructor.) Grades earned on examinations and lessons will be considered in determining the final course grade. The weight of lessons and exams in determining the final course grade varies within each course and is described in the course guide. Students must pass the final examination to pass an Independent and Distance Learning course, regardless of grades earned on lessons. Reexaminations are not permitted in Independent and Distance Learning courses.
Pass/Fail Option
A UGA student may take IDL courses with the Pass/Fail
option if all requirements are met as outlined by UGA policy and the student
has received clearance in OASIS from his/her academic advisor prior to registering
with IDL. Pass/fail courses will appear on the official transcript with a grade
of “S” or “U”. These grades do not count in the computation of the grade point
average. Only courses noted as “S” will receive credit. Also, students enrolled
in pass/fail courses shall receive a “U” if withdrawn from the course after
the IDL course midpoint, except in those cases in which the student is doing
satisfactory work and the withdrawal is recommended by the Office of Student
Affairs because of emergency or health reasons. For more information, please
visit UGA's Pass/Fail Option information page.
Please note that students who enrolled in Summer 2006 or later fall under UGA's new plus/minus grading system. Details are available at UGA's Online Bulletin.
Final Course Grades
Students who need Independent and Distance Learning grades to graduate or to satisfy eligibility requirements for the subsequent academic term must complete all assigned work and the final examination in sufficient time for Independent and Distance Learning to submit the course grades to the Registrar's Office. Students should plan their schedules to complete all requirements, including the final examination, at least 30 days before they wish to use the credit. Examinations are processed though the mail, and time must be allowed for the procedure. Graduating seniors are responsible for meeting the deadlines of their academic degree programs.
The Registrar's Office will post the course grade to the academic term of the original registration date. The course grade will be mailed to the student's address as verified on the cover of the final examination. The student is responsible for ensuring that Independent and Distance Learning has the correct address for the mailing of grades.
Students registered for resident credit courses will receive semester grade reports from the University of Georgia Registrar's Office listing Independent and Distance Learning courses with the designation "NR" until a final course grade is issued. The designation "NR"indicates that no grade has been reported for the course. When the final grade is issued, the "NR" will be removed. Courses taken for nonresident credit are not reflected on UGA grade reports.
