How Independent and Distance Learning Works

Having trouble getting the college courses you need to finish your degree? Trying to balance work and family commitments with educational goals? Online courses from the University of Georgia can help.

University of Georgia faculty teach more than 100 online courses through Independent and Distance Learning (IDL). These courses meet the same high academic standards and award the same credit as face-to-face versions.

Start at any time. Students already admitted to the University of Georgia can register online, order textbooks, and begin coursework in a matter days. If you are not already admitted, IDL staff can help you complete a streamlined IDL admissions process.

Take up to nine months to complete your online lessons and proctored exams. In an IDL course, you set your own schedule and manage your own time for maximum efficiency.
