Certification in Turfgrass Management

Are you among the growing number of turfgrass professionals who are seeking additional professional development? University System of Georgia Independent and Distance Learning (IDL), in conjunction with the University of Georgia College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CAES) and the Georgia Center for Continuing Education, is now offering an opportunity for Certification in Turfgrass Management via distance education.

This new offering has been specifically developed for those who wish to pursue a series of college credit courses in turfgrass management and related subjects, or who simply want solid, flexible, affordable and applicable courses taught by college faculty.  The ten courses that make up the certification have been designed by CAES faculty especially for learning at a distance and are available through either printed course guides or online courses.




Admission?
You may enroll in courses without admission to a college or university, nor are transcripts of previously completed work required.


Enrollment?
You may enroll at any time and begin and complete courses at your own pace over nine months.

We strive to make enrollment in the Certification in Turfgrass Management/IDL courses as convenient as possible. Admission to UGA is not required. There are two ways to register for the TMC courses.

The first is to visit our online catalog at www.georgiacenter.uga.edu/idl, complete the online registration form, and submit it over our secure server. Once you submit the online registration form, you will receive your materials by mail.

The other option is to print the registration form from our website and mail it to us, or you may also call our office and request that we fax or mail you a form. Our office will contact you only if there is a problem that hinders us in processing your registration.

Most of the time you can expect your registration to be processed within three to four days of our receiving it. However, there are times of the year when there will be a longer processing time (e.g., the beginning of each University of Georgia semester). Please allow one to two weeks to receive your materials once you have sent your registration information and payment.

Number of Courses?
You may enroll in one course at a time or enroll in up to three courses simultaneously.


Instructors?
All courses are taught by CAES faculty. You will be able to communicate with your professors via phone and email.


Student Services?
You may consult USGIDL student representatives in planning and continuing your coursework.


Costs?
Fees for the Certification in Turfgrass Management are paid "as you go." You will pay only for the course or courses for which you register -- not the entire certification at one time.

Tuition for IDL courses is $160.00 per semester hour, except for UGA students who are classified by the University as nonresident (out-of-state) students (see fee charts on IDL webpage). The academic credit that non-UGA students will receive for the courses completed is termed "nonresident credit." This means the same thing as "transfer credit."

Tuition for students who register online must be paid with a credit card. We accept Visa, MasterCard, and Discover.

For other types of course registration, tuition may be paid by credit card, by check, or money order made payable to the University of Georgia.
