About the Program
The University of Georgia (UGA), in partnership with the American Society of Appraisers (ASA), offers the "Personal Property Appraisal Certificate Program," a comprehensive personal property valuation program in fine arts, antiques, and much more!
The great success of the Antiques Roadshow and At the Auction television shows is evidence of the growth in interest in antiques, heirlooms, art, and collectibles. In this highly respected appraisal program, which is offered by a few select universities around the country, you will learn about the appreciation, history, and valuation of fine arts and antiques.
This four-course, sequenced series explores personal property valuations that help you build a career in appraising personal property. After successful completion of the four courses, you can be eligible for eventual membership in ASA. Course details for each Personal Property Appraisal, USPAP and Connoisseurship Courses are subject to change.
The courses must be taken in sequence. If you choose to take the following four courses, which are required to be taken in sequence in order to earn your Personal Property Appraisal Certificate, you may register for our special package price. Click for more details. Please note our cancellation policy on the registration form.
Who Should Attend?
Art dealers; estate liquidators; insurance adjusters; bank trust officers; art gallery staff; museum staff; docents/volunteers; appraisers of residential contents, gems, and jewelry; and anyone interested in personal property appraising as a career. You may already be working with fine arts and decorative arts and desire appraisal skills for your own personal use as a connoisseur or collector. If so, this program is for you!
American Society of Appraisers
The American Society of Appraisers, an organization of appraisal professionals and others interested in the appraisal profession, is committed to fostering professional excellence in its membership through education, accreditation, publications, and other services. ASA is the oldest (originated, 1936; incorporated, 1952) and only major appraisal organization representing all of the disciplines of appraisal specialists. ASA is a founding member of the Appraisal Foundation, a national nonprofit organization created to establish uniform criteria for professional appraisers. Society members include specialists in personal property (antiques, fine arts, residential contents, automotive specialties, etc.), gems and jewelry, and appraisal review and management. For further information, call 800-272-8258, or visit the ASA Web site at www.appraisers.org.
