How The Course Was Developed
This course was developed to make it more convenient for professional foresters in Georgia and beyond to satisfy the forestry registration requirements. The State of Georgia requires registered foresters earn 12 hours of continuing forestry education credits of which one (1) hour must be earned in the area of professional ethics in forestry.
The Course Author: Ben Jackson, Ph.D., is a professor of forestry at the University of Georgia Daniel B. Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources. Ben has more than 25 years of experience in several states and countries as an industrial forester, a forestry consultant, and a university educator. He has been a member of Society of American Foresters (SAF) since 1973. Ben designed the Georgia Master Timber Harvester Program and has expertise in evaluating forestland for the Sustainable Forestry Initiative. Ben is considered an expert in forestry ethics and has taught more than 100 sessions of Professional Ethics in Forestry for The University of Georgia, forestry companies, and forest resource organizations.
About the University of Georgia Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources
The Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources is housed in a four-building complex on the University of Georgia's South Campus. It was founded in 1906 through an endowment from George Foster Peabody and is the oldest school of forest resources in the South. The Warnell School's mission is to prepare leaders in the conservation and sustainable management of forests and other natural resources; to discover ways to restore and better use the earth's natural resources; and to put into practice forestry and natural resources knowledge. The School manages the 740-acre Whitehall Forest near campus and more than 23,500 acres across the state for research, teaching, and service activities.
