A skill in demand world-wide: Teaching English to speakers of other languages.
This 30-hour classroom course explores the profession of TESOL from both learning and teaching perspectives, in the U.S and in other countries. We will examine key issues related to developing curriculum and individual lesson plans for teaching Basic English, Academic or Vocational English, and English for Special Purposes via English as a Second Language (ESL) or as a foreign language (EFL). Topics include professionalism, career development and transitions and/or avocations, job searches, the standards and changes within the field, global issues related to culture and language, fundamentals of lesson and curriculum development, and the activities of the practitioner and the learner.
This course, which includes lectures, interactive study and cross-cultural activities, can be taken as an individual study or as one of the four modules of the Global TESOL Certificate Program.

Sarah Anne Shope, PhD, brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in teaching English to speaker of other languages. She has been active in developing and facilitating Global TESOL training courses and programs, and her area of expertise includes applied linguistics, issues of culture, methodology for teaching English as a second language and/or as a foreign language, and creative professional writing. As a professional writer, Shope has considerable commercial, literary and academic publication credits.
