The Spanish/English Legal Interpreter Certificate Program is a 30-hour training program designed for bilingual individuals who speak English and Spanish and work in the legal field or in a court system. This program prepares you for the State Court Interpretation Certification Test so you can assist Spanish-speaking people who come before the Courts.

Job Outlook: According to the U.S. Department of Labor, interpreters and translations can expect much faster than average employment growth over the next decade due to the increase in the number of foreign language speakers in the United States and the broadening of international ties.

3.0 CEUs awarded/ Certificate of Program Completion
Timely completion of assignments is required including the successful completion of written and oral assignments. Your attendance is required at all five sessions in order for you to receive your "Certificate of Completion."
Marilu Montalvo attended the Universidad of Puerto Rico and has a graduate certification in translation and interpretation from Georgia State University. She is a National Certificate Bilingual CPA, State Registered Court Interpreter, and trained medical interpreter. Currently, Montalvo is an administrative manager with the Board of Commissioners of Rockdale County, Georgia, and was the state coordinator for the Hispanic Outreach Program for the University of Georgia Traffic Injury Prevention Institute.
There is no prerequisite other than you must consider yourself bilingually (Spanish/English) proficient. Should you not meet the language requirement, no refund of previously paid course fee will be given. Contact the Professional and Personal Development office for more details.
Performance tapes and the manual will be furnished. You will be expected to bring an audio tape recorder, tapes for the recorder, and batteries to be used in all sessions (approximately $35).
