Write, direct and produce your very own movie! In this one-week introductory course, you'll learn the basics of screenwriting, camera work, and video editing as you work with your crew to create an original production. Students will receive a DVD of the final projects, and all students, family and friends are invited to the Summer Academy Film Festival that will be held at the end of the summer. Open to students ages 11-15.

This camp meets each day at the Georgia Center, but students will travel around campus by foot or bus to film their movies. More detailed information will available closer to the camp start date.

Rick Waters is a freelance instructional designer for the healthcare industry, and has produced numerous educational videos for healthcare organizations and consulting firms. He received his M.D. in Dentistry from Georgia Health Sciences University. He produced a nine-part computer-generated video series for the world's largest dental consulting firm in 1998 and has won four awards for video production from The Videographer Awards, the latest in 2010. Rick currently lives with his wife Marie in Athens. This is Rick's eighth year as a Summer Academy instructor.
Tifany Lee is currently completing her MFA in Dramatic Media from the Theatre and Film Studies at The University of Georgia. She earned her BA in Filmmaking from Georgia State University, and then went on to work in television, theatre, and independent film in the Southeast as an actor and then filmmaker. Tifany has experience working in a variety of digital video forms including narrative, documentary, and animation.
Josh Marsh earned his MFA in Dramatic Media at the University of Georgia, and is currently a PhD student in Theatre and Performance Studies. As an MFA student, Josh produced several animated and live action shorts which can be seen in films, TV commercials, museums (both in Georgia and internationally across Europe), and in a few video games. Josh has taken courses from artists at several major animation studios (Pixar, Dreamworks, Disney) and has a degree in Advanced Animation Studies from Animation Mentor. He has served as a Teaching Assistant for UGA's Introduction to Film course for 4 years and frequently contributes custom-made electronics to the Theatre program's stage productions. A former high school English teacher, Josh was both chair of the Computers Department and currently teaches Technology at the Georgia Governor's Honors Program (GHP).
You will have access to shared camcorders, microphones, tripods and dollies in this camp. With their parents' permission, students may bring their own video camera to camp, but Summer Academy at UGA is not responsible for keeping track of students' personal belongings, and is not liable for anything that gets lost or broken. A detailed list of supplies needed for your camp program will be emailed to you two weeks before camp begins.
