TRAVELLING WEAVE DÉJÀ VU EXHIBIT AT THE GEORGIA CENTER
Athens, GA - The University of Georgia Center for Continuing Education Conference Center & Hotel will host the "Travelling Weave: Déjà vu" art exhibit presented by The Travelling Weave: International Artists for Peace, April 15 - June 30, 2006 in the Hill Atrium. The exhibit is free and open to the public. The Georgia Center is located on the campus of UGA at 1197 S. Lumpkin Street in Athens.

The Travelling Weave: International Artists for Peace, is a group of eight international artists who first met in December 2003 at the 4th Biennale of Contemporary Art in Florence, Italy. They quickly established mutual friendships based on a desire for peace, international communication and artistic growth. While in Florence, they decided to form The Travelling Weave with the commitment that each member would host an exhibit in each of their countries. The goal of the group is to put into practice their desire to continue international dialogue about and for art and peace. The countries represented include Turkey, Chile, Spain, Brazil, Italy, Canada and the United States.

On Thursday, April 27 at 7 p.m., Laura Leiden, the International Artists for Peace, U.S. Representative, will present a slide show of the artists' homes and studios in the Hill Atrium at the Georgia Center. She will also be available for questions or discussion before and after the slide show.

The artists include: Sandra Bray, from Elmira, Ontario, Canada, whose oil paintings depict the seasons of the Canadian landscape; Safa Bute, from Adana, Turkey, whose has detailed pen and ink drawings which look very old and traditional but have the subject matter a bit like science fiction; Alfonso Caputo, from Tolentino, Italy, whose digital art depicts layers of buildings; and Víctor Cepríán Cortés, from Aldeaquemada, Jaén, Spain, who is exhibiting his new explorations in digital art; Asli Deniz Helvacioglu, from Istanbul, Turkey, whose acrylic painting depicts a woman in a cocoon-like shape; Laura Leiden, from Watkinsville, Georgia, whose new abstract photographic work includes views out of New York City bus windows and her homegrown desk mess; Cecilia Fernandez Quintana, from Santiago, Chile, whose oil paintings depicts figures and abstracts in layers of earthy colors; Monica Zacharias, from Sao Paulo, Brazil, whose large bright abstracts are created with an intuitive style.
