DEADLINE FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS TO APPLY FOR ENGLISH/SPANISH BILINGUAL EDUCATIONAL FORUM IS MAY 15

Athens, GA - The deadline of May 15, 2006, to apply for Padres e Hijos Fin de Semana (Seniors and Parents UGA Weekend) is rapidly approaching. Presented by the University of Georgia (UGA) Center for Continuing Education, Padres e Hijos Fin de Semana will be held September
8-9, 2006, at the Georgia Center, located at 1197 S. Lumpkin St., on the UGA campus in Athens, Ga.
Padres e Hijos Fin de Semana is a two-day event in which 20 of Georgia's top-performing high school students and their parents will visit the UGA campus for an English/Spanish bilingual educational forum. This event is especially designed to welcome and encourage potential UGA applicants. Current Latino UGA students, parents, faculty, and alumni will be on hand to welcome the visitors and share their experiences. English/Spanish interpreters will be available throughout the program.
Exceptional high school students who 1) will enter their senior year fall 2006, 2) have a high probability of qualifying for, being admitted into, and attending UGA; and 3) have a strong interest and involvement in Latino issues and the local Latino culture are invited to apply to participate in Padres e Hijos Fin de Semana. The program will commence with a welcoming reception and an introduction to some of the bilingual ambassador-hosts who will be available throughout the event.
Activities include:
* Friday night lodging in the University of Georgia Center for Continuing Education Conference Center & Hotel
* Dinner, breakfast, and lunch
* Introductions to members of the Students for Latino/a Empowerment and the Hispanic Students Association
* Speakers, including members of UGA's Latino community
* Informational group activities
* Conversations with academic and admissions representatives
* An opportunity to fill out the early admission application
