"LOVE NATURE" ART EXHIBIT OPENS IN AUGUST AT THE GEORGIA CENTER
|
Athens, GA - The University of Georgia Center for Continuing Education Conference Center & Hotel will host "Love Nature," an art exhibit presented by folk artists Steve and Jeff Payne (The Payne Brothers) and Bennie Morrison, August 1-31, 2006 in the Center's Hill Atrium. The exhibit is free and open to the public. The Georgia Center is located at 1197 S. Lumpkin Street in Athens.
"Love Nature" is a vibrant, colorful show featuring the work of The Payne Brothers and Morrison who love nature. This love of nature can be seen in their work which is highly regarded regionally, as well as by folk-art enthusiasts throughout the world.
* Jeff Payne blends bright colors and paints that create works of art that add life to any setting. His brother Steve designs and creates sculptured whales, fish, birds, and other creatures from driftwood and other materials. Jeff then adds brilliant colors and patterns to the sculptures.
In addition to his 3-dimensional work, Jeff creates vivid paintings on canvas and wood along with colorful frames. He often writes nature-centric poetry either on the painting, the frame or on the back of his work.
* Bennie Morrison paints country scenes of life where he grew up in Oglethorpe County, Georgia. He is known to paint on just about anything including turtle shells, flat-iron skillets, old railroad spikes, flour sifters and canvas; but he is probably best known for painting on old bricks and is sometimes referred to as the "Brick Artist of Oglethorpe County."
The Payne Brothers' work is currently being featured at "Oliver's Southern Folk Art" in Hendersonville, North Carolina. In the past, their work has been shown in Naples, Florida, at the DuBruyne Fine Art Gallery and at Phipps Plaza Gallery in Atlanta. Bennie's work is currently featured at "Marcia Weber/Art Objects" gallery in Montgomery, Alabama, Bill Jones' "Folk Art Net" in Roanoke, Virginia, "Mikesarttruck.com" in Tucker, Georgia, and the "Flat Penny Gallery" in Athens, Georgia. The work of all three artists can also be seen at "The Art Place" in Crawford, Georgia.
