ENGLISH GARDENS STUDY TOUR CERTIFICATE PROGRAM TO TOUR GARDENS ENDANGERED BY THE EFFECTS OF GLOBAL WARMING
Athens, GA - Sometimes we really should stop and smell the roses. In a recently released report, many of the most popular flowers grown in English Gardens are under threat from global warming. The report, compiled by Britain's Royal Horticultural Society, the Forestry Commission, The Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew, and the United Kingdom Climate Impacts Programme, indicates ferns, daffodils, bluebells, crocuses, snowdrops, mosses, and rhododendron will be most effected.

On June 14-22, 2006, The University of Georgia Center for Continuing Education will offer a tour a dozen of the most popular gardens, castles, and arboretums gardens in England as a part of the English Gardens Study Tour Certificate Program. The multi-day educational tour will be led by UGA Professor of Horticulture, Dr. Jim Midcap.

"This timely report coincides with this unique educational opportunity in which participants will have a better appreciation for creating their own gardens. This tour will give participants the opportunity to visit some very unique gardens," said Pamela Bracken, the department head of Certificate Programs at the Georgia Center. "There are many styles of English Gardens that are visually attractive with their vast flowers, shrubs, trees and plants, and are also quite practical."

While touring the gardens of England participants will have the opportunity to learn about the many features that make up outstanding gardens, identify new plants, develop an appreciation for plant combinations, gain new ideas about ornamental plantings and maintenance, share ideas with fellow garden enthusiasts and earn Continuing Education Units (CEUs), as well as a Certificate of Completion from the University of Georgia.

Registration is limited and a non-refundable deposit is required.
