UNIVERSITY OF GEORGIA PARTNERS WITH PURDUE UNIVERSITY TO OFFER POPULAR PHARMACOKINETICS COURSE TO PURDUE'S DOCTOR OF PHARMACY STUDENTS
|
Athens, GA - The Department of Certificate Programs of the University of Georgia (UGA) Center for Continuing Education Conference Center & Hotel and Purdue University have partnered together to offer UGA's Concepts of Pharmacokinetics Online Continuing Education Course, with optional Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited certification component, to pharmacy students enrolled in the Purdue University School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.
"Approximately 40 pharmacists enrolled in the Purdue University Nontraditional Doctor of Pharmacy program have completed the Concepts of Clinical Pharmacokinetics Certificate Program to fulfill the academic credit for the advanced pharmacokinetics portion of our curriculum," said Robert W. Bennett, Professor of Pharmacy Practice, Director of Continuing Education, Purdue University School of Pharmacy, West Lafayette, Indiana. "I believe this course is very applicable for teaching pharmacokinetics to practicing pharmacists. The University of Georgia and its Center of Continuing Education have been extremely cooperative in all areas of working with us and our students. The pharmacy school faculty at Georgia does an excellent job of mentoring our students. In short, our experience with the course has been very positive and we plan to continue offering this course because it meets the educational needs of our students."
Presented by the Georgia Center and the UGA College of Pharmacy, and in cooperation with the American Society of Health System Pharmacists, Concepts in Clinical Pharmacokinetics is a self-paced, self-study, 15-week program in the fundamental principles of absorption, distribution, metabolization, and elimination of drugs from the human body.
This program is rich in multimedia elements that expand on the text and stimulate learning. These elements provide the basis for an intense, instructor-facilitated course that brings to life the realities and nuances of clinical pharmacokinetics.
Concepts in Clinical Pharmacokinetics is designed primarily for licensed pharmacists and others already working in the pharmaceutical industry wanting to obtain a well-rounded and in-depth knowledge of clinical pharmacokinetics. For pharmacists wanting more extensive individualized instruction in managing pharmacokinetics cases, they can enroll in an optional certificate program and obtain additional hours of ACPE-approved credit. The certificate program consists of the 15-week CE program, together with online case-based assignments and patient management strategies guided by program faculty.
The program has recently been updated, and also serves as a great alternative remedial tool for matriculating undergraduate students enrolled in resident pharmacy programs. Licensed pharmacists can register for the 15-week course and earn ACPE-approved CEs (20 contact hours). Or, they can register for the three-month ACPE-accredited certification course (30 contact hours). Pharmacy school representatives wanting more details about the Online Course should contact the Georgia Center for more details.
Registration is currently open, 24-hours a day at www.georgiacenter.uga.edu/is/kinetics. For more information about Concepts in Clinical Pharmacokinetics or to register, please contact the department of Certificate Programs at The University of Georgia Center for Continuing Education Conference Center & Hotel at (706) 542-6692, (800) 325-2090 or e-mail.
