Georgia Center announces Spanish/English Medical Interpreter Certificate Program for this Fall
Athens, GA - (July 27, 2007) - The University of Georgia Center for Continuing Education will offer the Spanish/English Medical Interpreter Certificate Program in Fall 2007, and is open for enrollment with the Department of Certificate Programs. This 30-hour course is offered Saturdays, Oct. 6 - Nov. 3, 2007, at The University of Georgia Gwinnett Campus, 1000 University Lane, in Lawrenceville, Ga.

The Spanish/English Medical Interpreter Certificate Program is designed for people who are bilingual or nearly bilingual in Spanish and English and who are interested in becoming medical interpreters or in further developing their skills and professionalism. Some previous or current experience in the healthcare community is presumed but is not a prerequisite for this intensive course.

This program provides participants with the theoretical, procedural, and linguistic backgrounds necessary for complying with the Medical Interpreting Standards of Practice. This program is dedicated to continual professional growth and assessment in this fast-growing field. Successful completion will include a pre-test, mid-course assessment and end-of course oral and written examinations measuring participants' skills and strategies as an effective and efficient interpreter. Upon successful attendance of the five sessions and the course assignments, participants will earn a Certificate of Completion and 3.0 University of Georgia Continuing Education Units (CEUs).
