Robert B. Leiter Retiring September 2007
Athens, GA - (June 26, 2007) - Robert B. Leiter will retire, September 19, 2007, from his position as Director of the University of Georgia Center for Continuing Education Conference Center & Hotel after a career of three decades in higher education.

Dr. Leiter came to the University of Georgia in 2003. Prior to that, he was the Dean of University Outreach and Continuing Education at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. He has also held administrative positions at Florida International University, Mississippi State University, the University of Alabama, Eastern Kentucky University and the State University of New York (SUNY) at Fredonia. He has international experience through student and faculty exchange programs and through visits and lectures in Taiwan, Korea, and Japan. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Ashland University in Ohio, his master's degree from Edinboro University in Pennsylvania and an Ed.D. from the University of Cincinnati.

A recognized leader in the field of education and continuing education, Dr. Leiter has written a number of articles, lectured nationally and internationally, and has served as a consultant on leadership, strategic planning, and distance learning. Dr. Leiter is a past president of the Association for Continuing Higher Education (ACHE). He served on the national board and the finance committee of the University Continuing Education Association (UCEA).

He is a strong advocate for non-traditional education and the life-long learning process. Evidence of this is his leadership in distance learning, his support of general studies and his belief in the principles of synergy. In addition to his active professional life, Dr. Leiter is heavily involved in civic and community leadership roles and was recently awarded the 2007 Louis Griffith Hospitality Leadership Award from the Athens Convention & Visitors Bureau and he also received the Lifetime Achievement Award from The Learning Resource Network (LERN). In 2006, he was awarded the Meritorious Service Award from ACHE.

He will retire to Florida and continue to be active in the continuing education profession and do some consulting.
