UGA and UA Hold First Annual National Conference on University and College Conference Centers June 3-5
Athens, GA - (June 26, 2007) - The First Annual National Conference on University and College Conference Centers was held June 3-5, 2007, at the University of Georgia Center for Continuing Education Conference Center & Hotel. Co-sponsored by the Georgia Center and the University of Alabama College of Continuing Studies, the three-day conference explored the issues, challenges and opportunities of collegiate conference centers, attracting 100 participants from organizations throughout the United States and Canada.

"The conference was outstanding in the quality of the presentations and the opportunity to network with colleagues from across the country. We enjoyed partnering with the University of Alabama to offer this much-needed conference. This type conference and its resounding success will help the Georgia Center maintain its pre-eminent position in the field of university-based conference centers, nationally," said Susan Allen, Department of Conference & Program Development. One of the participants from North Carolina State University commented, "Both my professional development knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as my spirits have been elevated to an all-time high. The speakers, breakout sessions, breaks, and meals were superb. Most of all, thank you for the true Southern hospitality!"

The second annual conference will be held August 4-6, 2008 at the University of Alabama's Bryant Conference Center in Tuscaloosa, Ala. The event returns to the Georgia Center in 2009.

The Georgia Center, celebrating its 50th Anniversary in 2007, is a unit of the University of Georgia's Office of the Vice President for Public Service and Outreach. The Center provides innovative lifelong learning opportunities through its continuing education programs. On UGA's campus, the Georgia Center includes a full-service hotel with 200 rooms and suites, restaurants, ballroom, conference rooms, auditoriums, a fitness center, and computer labs — all under one roof.
