Athens, GA - (March 28, 2007) - The Second Annual SLE Youth Conference will be held Saturday, March 31, 2007, at the University of Georgia's Center for Continuing Education Conference Center and Hotel. The theme is ¡Sí, Se Puede! or "Yes, We Can."

Seventy rising ninth to twelfth graders from schools all across Georgia have been invited to attend this one-day conference on the UGA campus. Students from Athens-Clarke, Barrow, Clayton, Cobb, Douglas, Fulton, Gwinnett, Hall, Houston, Jackson, Oconee, Polk, and Whitfield counties will be represented.

The event will expose youth to higher education opportunities, educate them on the steps necessary to pursue higher education and encourage leadership in their communities. Attendees will engage in workshops focusing on the college application process, leadership development and socio-cultural issues affecting the Latino community. They also will hear from respected Latino leaders, college students and faculty. Attendees will have the opportunity to speak to campus recruiters and community organization representatives during a College and Community Resource Fair.

Students for Latina/o Empowerment organized the conference, which is supported by the Office of the vice President for Public Service and Outreach, the Georgia Center for Continuing Education Conference Center and Hotel, Latin American and Caribbean Studies Institute, and Multicultural Services and Programs of UGA.
