Georgia Center joins Penn State University and Texas Christian University in offering new executive coaching program
Athens, GA - (May 11, 2007) - The University of Georgia Center for Continuing Education is pleased to announce it has partnered with Sherpa Coaching to offer Sherpa Executive Coaching Certification Program. The Georgia Center will hold its inaugural Sherpa program Oct. 1-5 and Nov. 5-8, 2007, at the Center, 1197 S. Lumpkin St., on the UGA campus in Athens, Georgia.

Executive coaching is an industry searching for standards. The second annual Sherpa Executive Coaching Survey, published in March 2007, shows that the credibility of the coaching profession lags far behind its perceived value. Judith Colemon, a Sherpa Coaching author and instructor, explained: "HR professionals, who have experience with one-on-one coaching, know it produces a tremendous return on investment. That's not to say they'd hire just any coach. Some people in this business don't have a clear process, or the skills to do a great job. Our executive coaching program offers a proven way to create those skills and qualifications."

The Sherpa certification is the only executive coaching program offered at multiple universities. "In eighteen months, we've brought a defining book to market and demonstrated that we have exactly what the industry needs: a universal standard for training and certification. We are honored with the recognition that multiple university partnerships bring," said Brenda Corbett, a Sherpa Coaching author and instructor.

"The University of Georgia's Center for Continuing Education is coming on board with us for the fall of 2007," Colemon added. "We'll have three simultaneous programs at top-ranked universities. I think that tells the story pretty well. Demand for the program in 2008 calls for us to train and certify additional instructors, too."

In early April, Penn State Executive Programs graduated its first class of Certified Sherpa Coaches. The 60-hour classroom program marks a milestone shared with Penn State's partner, Sherpa Coaching, a Cincinnati-based training and certification firm. In the previous week, TCU's Executive Leadership program graduated its first class of Sherpa Certified Coaches on their Fort Worth, Texas campus. The two graduations mark a breakthrough for Sherpa Coaching in their efforts to set industry standards for executive coaching.

Corbett and Colemon taught these certification programs based on their book "The Sherpa Guide: Process-Driven Executive Coaching." Corbett said: "The caliber of participants in these programs has gone to a new level. Penn State and Texas Christian consistently deliver top-notch executive education programs. That's been apparent in both of our sessions, with each university drawing a European executive coach to work with us."

Gitte Hegelund, past President of the Nordic Coaching Federation, commuted from Denmark to Dallas for the Sherpa Certification. She said: "It is high time to take coaching education to the next level, so we can optimize the quality of the product we as coaches offer to our customers. The Sherpa Coaching program at TCU delivers a comprehensive executive coaching process. I have gone to the next level with the Sherpa Certification."

Sherpa Coaching offers a fifteen minute video describing the university programs at their website, www.sherpacoaching.com. In addition, there's an audio track from a recent talk radio show, in which the authors define coaching and explain the Sherpa Process. "There's also information offered by each university about their Executive Coaching Certification", Corbett explained.

"Our participants call it the 'gold standard' for coaching, and we do agree", said Colemon. "When Penn State, TCU and the University of Georgia agree on a program from outside their walls, you have something very special in the world of executive education. We'll be working with these three through 2007 and beyond, and we are honored to have them as partners."
