Georgia Center Announces 2008 Income Tax Programs

Athens, Ga. (October 9, 2008) The Department of Professional and Personal Development at the University of Georgia Center for Continuing Education is pleased to announce the 2008 Income Tax Programs. These programs are offered to certified public accountants and attorneys at locations throughout the state of Georgia, including Athens, Marietta, Dalton, Lawrenceville, Gainesville, and Stockbridge. Session I: 1040 Tax Season Survival Course
Topics for the 2008 tax year include:
- Issues for Family: Dependent-care credit; kiddie-tax elections; college-planning credits, student-loan interest; dependent exemptions; divorce; effect of TIPRA on the kiddie-tax planning strategies
- Issues for Seniors: Retirement distributions; long-term-care issues; Social Security benefits; in-home employees for medical needs; credit for the elderly and disabled
- Investment Reporting: Calculating stock basis for sales; dealing with stock options; capital gains tax issues; foreign tax credit; wash-sale rules; issues with mutual funds and bond sales

information needed to prepare income tax returns for the 2008 filing season.
Session II: Federal Tax Update
