Vamos a la Universidad at The University of Georgia

!Vamos a la Universidad!
Let's go to the University

A bilingual summer program in critical thinking, reading, and
writing for high-achieving students who care about Georgia's Latino culture

Dates: July 15-20, 2007.

Location: University of Georgia Campus, Athens.

Vamos a la Universidad offers five days of exciting, academically challenging activities in a bilingual university environment. Thirty-four rising ninth-grade students will be selected to participate. The young scholars will live in University of Georgia housing and eat in University dining halls alongside UGA students. Classes are taught in English by certified teachers; most social activities are conducted in Spanish. The challenging curriculum covers college-level ideas in critical thinking and writing, as well as providing interactive and leadership opportunities. Integrated units include field trips to exciting Athens locations and fun, stimulating activities as well as complex thinking. Applications must be received no later than May 1, 2007.

This bilingual summer program for high achieving students is conducted by the Georgia Center for Continuing Education. Vamos was originally funded by the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation for 2005-2006. The 2007 program is funded by a grant from the Hispanic Scholarship Fund and the Office of the Vice President for Public Service and Outreach.
