Think you're ready for a career in healthcare? Attend Mini Medical School, and see if you have what it takes! As an intern here, you'll learn about DNA, x-rays, human anatomy, personal health and more – all while having fun, taking cool field trips and even performing a mock surgery. You'll meet and hear from experts in the healthcare fields – including doctors, dentists, researchers, EMTs and other professionals. So put on some scrubs and let's see what you're made of! This is one of our most popular camps, so early registration is strongly recommended.

Overnight students will check in at the residence hall on Sunday evening and check out on Saturday morning. Day students will check in on Monday morning between 8-8:30am. Classrooms are located around campus, and students may travel by foot, bus or university vehicle to get to classrooms or other camp activities. More details will be available in your confirmation email and in the welcome email sent out three weeks before camp begins.

Day Camp - $360

  • Optional Extended Day at Legion Pool until 5:30pm - $35

Overnight Camp - $760

Prerequisites:
None. This course is designed for students with little to no background in medicine or life sciences. If you have an older student with a strong science background, please consider requesting a waiver to attend Mini Medical School 2: Beyond the Basics.

Financial Assistance:
Students who need financial assistance are encouraged to request it as early as possible, and before registering for camp. Forms will be available for download in the right hand column of this page as soon as registration opens, and will be processed in the order they are received. Notification of financial assistance will be emailed out beginning in mid-May, and could be sent as late as three weeks before your camp begins if funds are still available. Awards range from 50-65% of the total cost of the camp, so students should be prepared to pay 35%-50% of the cost upon notification of financial assistance. Payment plans can be arranged, but all payments must be received no later than two weeks before camp begins. Instructor: 

Dr. Rick Waters has an M.D. in Dentistry from Georgia Regents University (formerly The Medical College of Georgia). He has taught all levels of healthcare education, from Associate Degree students up to Doctoral students. He works full-time as a freelance instructional designer for the healthcare industry, and has provided a variety of multimedia materials to medical and dental organizations nationwide. Dr. Waters is the founder and creator of Summer Academy's Mini Medical School program, and this will be his ninth year as a Summer Academy instructor.
