Retirement 101

No matter where you are in your career journey, it’s never too early — or too late — to start planning for retirement. This session offers a clear and informative overview of the retirement benefits available through the University System of Georgia and the University of Georgia. Attendees will learn about key retirement milestones, including the significance of becoming vested after 10 years of service, and gain insight into how the milestones affect your retirement income. Participants will also learn about valuable resources available to support retirement education and planning—such as CAPTRUST — and how to make the most of them to secure a strong financial future.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Understand the mandatory retirement plans (TRS or ORP)
  2. Understand retiree requirements and benefits
  3. Learn about resources available for retirement education and planning

Presenters:

Joanna Manzi, Assistant Director of Benefits and Well-being, Human Resources, University of Georgia 

Joanna Manzi joined University Human Resources in 2004. She has over 30 years of human resources experience. Manzi started with UHR as a benefits counselor where she counseled UGA employees and retirees on every aspect of their benefits. For 18 years, she managed all aspects of the UGA student health insurance plans and serves on the USG Student Health Insurance Plan Advisory Committee. Currently, Manzi serves as the assistant director of benefits and well-being. She holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and human resources from UGA and a master’s degree in personnel and employee relations from the University of South Carolina.

Angie Dellinger, HR Senior Managing Consultant, Employee Well-being Team, Human Resources, University of Georgia

Angie Dellinger joined University Human Resources 11 years ago in the benefits department and was responsible for assisting newly-hired employees with benefit and retirement questions.  Currently, she is a human resources senior benefits managing consultant meeting with employees on retirement and benefits into retirement. Dellinger earned her bachelor’s degree in consumer economics from the University of Georgia.
