Video Game Design

In this virtual workshop, you will learn about and practice video game design. Our meeting times consist of reviewing the basics of video game design, making individual video game design projects, and sharing our design work. Participants are introduced to a set of video game design tools and given support in using them to create small games and design ideas that are sharable online. As we explore and experiment with video game design tools and ideas, our group begins to function as a design collective. Crucially, this camp will emphasize video game design, not computer programming, which means campers will not be given direct instruction in writing computer language (e.g., Python). Across the six weeks of this program, participants will expand their design methodologies as they gain experience with building and sharing playable video game design ideas within a supportive design collective.

Ages: 14-17

Course Date Info:

Students will be using UGA’s eLearning Common and Zoom for this course. Students will be e-mailed their access information one week before the program and will be able to log-in to their program before meetings begin.

Prerequisites:
Students must have a strong interest in designing and creating games – not just playing them! Students will be placed on a team and asked to work together to develop an idea and create a pitch, so a positive attitude and willingness to work with others is a must.
