About this camp…
Are you ready to identify a business and design need in the medical, industrial, or consumer markets and use additive manufacturing to develop your solution? Challenge yourself in this engaging, high-stakes camp! Guided by an expert instructor, you will focus on a specific product. Working in teams of 3-5, you will create a process-oriented business and engineering design plan that integrates product design and fabrication.
We will start the camp with an immersive two-day training session for your team to learn CAD and CAM. Then, you will put your knowledge into practice during an intensive two-and-a-half-day Hackathon, where you will develop a design concept and 3D print additive manufacturing parts for your product. Finally, you will present your product idea, engineering design, and business plan during the final pitch.

Prerequisites
Some basic knowledge of math and physics may be helpful, but this course is designed for high school students with little to no experience in engineering.
Instructor
Adam Wineland is a lecturer in the College of Engineering at the University of Georgia. He teaches engineering graphics and design and serves as a mentor for students working on various design projects. Adam earned his bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from North Georgia College and State University and his master’s degree in Engineering from the University of Georgia. Outside of class, Adam enjoys playing video games with his two sons and judging youth science fair competitions while encouraging younger generations to join the light side of the STEM force. This is Adam’s fifth year as a Summer Academy instructor.
