Money Dawgs Camp

Discover the secrets surrounding money, personal financial decision making, and investing. Have fun learning how to get the most out of your money and discover great financial planning careers. This is no boring study of graphs, supply and demand, and budgets. Each day is filled with hands-on games, funny stories, interesting facts, and a variety of activities such as watching, learning, and critiquing financial behaviors as shown on television and the movies. You will visit financial institutions, participate in a bank search in downtown Athens, and shop for food, fun, and bargains in local stores. At the end of this week you will know more about the secrets of money than many adults!

Location Info:

Overnight students will check in at the residence hall on Sunday evening and check out on Saturday morning. Day students will check in on Monday morning between 8-8:30am. Classrooms are located around campus, and students may travel by foot, bus or university vehicle to get to classrooms or other camp activities. More details will be available in your confirmation email and in the welcome email sent out three weeks before camp begins.

None. This course is designed for students with little to no background in finance or money, and is open to all students in this age range who are interested in exploring personal finance and careers in the financial industry.


Timi Joy Jorgensen is currently a doctoral student at the University of Georgia. She is studying Financial Planning with research focused on gender equality in the financial sector and financial education. Timi also teaches financial literacy classes to community members during the academic year through the UGA Extension Office and Project F.R.E.E. Her experiences teaching adults led to her interest in teaching youth through the Money Dawgs program. She earned her undergraduate degree in Financial Planning from Utah Valley University before moving with her family to beautiful Georgia to continue their adventures here in Athens. Timi is married and has two children, a 5 year old daughter named Piper, and a new baby boy named Dane. This is Timi’s first year as a Summer Academy instructor.

Tammy Williams is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Consumer Sciences at the University of Georgia (UGA). Her area of concentration is financial planning. She also has a master’s degree in business administration (MBA). She hopes to teach the next generation of financial planners as well as serve the community through outreach.  She’s excited to join the Summer Academy team as an Instructor! This is Tammy’s first year as a Summer Academy instructor.

Dana Carney is a Double Dawgs student in the Financial Planning program. She will complete her Bachelor’s degree in May 2018 and her Master’s degree in May 2019. After graduation, Dana plans to pursue a career in financial counseling and education. Dana currently serves with The Ark, a local nonprofit, and the on-campus ASPIRE Clinic. In her spare time, Dana enjoys spending time at the beach and all things aviation. This is Dana’s first year as a Summer Academy Instructor and she is very excited to be joining the team!
