About this camp

This week-long camp is your mission control to the world of engineering. You won’t just learn what engineers do; you’ll be one!

Get ready to tackle epic hands-on projects as you jump into state-of-the-art engineering labs and fabrication spaces, exploring the professional engineering design process. Attend cool workshops and compete in awesome team challenges that mirror actual industry problem-solving.

Meet students and faculty from the College of Engineering who will show you exactly how your love for science and math can turn into a powerful career! Discover how real engineers solve problems and create incredible things, from apps to impressive robots.

By the end of the week, you’ll have the technical and teamwork skills you need to succeed as you explore your path into engineering.

This camp offers support to participants interested in pursuing a future engineering degree who demonstrate financial need and a commitment to promoting greater access to the field of engineering.

Essential Information

Prerequisites

Some basic knowledge of math and physics may be helpful, but this camp is designed for high school students with little to no experience in engineering.

Instructor

 Dr. Racheida S. Lewis is an Assistant Professor at the University of Georgia, working in the Engineering Education Transformations Institute (EETI) and the Department of Electrical and Computer Systems Engineering. She has received numerous honors, including being a Gates Millennium Scholar, GEM Associate Fellow, New Horizon Scholar, and inductee into the Bouchet Honor Society in 2019. Racheida earned her doctoral degree from Virginia Tech, researching how matriculation structures impact self-efficacy in electrical and computer engineering students. She holds a B.S. from Virginia Commonwealth University and an M.Eng. from the University of Virginia. Racheida is passionate about increasing access to engineering through mentorship, demonstrated by her leadership and lifelong membership in the National Society of Black Engineers. Her goal is to connect research and teaching to improve engineering education. This is her fifth year as a Summer Academy Instructor.
