About this course
What you’ll learn
You will learn about the vital role you play in drafting effective estate planning documents such as wills, trusts, and powers of attorney. You will become familiar with key probate and estate planning terminology, enabling you to recognize legal issues related to estate and tax concerns that may require further investigation. Additionally, you will develop the skills to make informed recommendations based on case situations and understand when additional research is necessary. Offered in partnership with CLS by BARBRI, this course also covers common estate planning forms and documents, giving you practical experience in drafting essential documents like wills, revocable living trusts, and durable powers of attorney.

Learning objectives
- Describe the role of a paralegal in creating wills, trusts, and other estate planning documents.
- Identify and define key probate and estate planning terminology.
- Analyze legal issues related to estate planning and recognize potential estate or tax problems requiring further research.
- Make recommendations for case situations involving estate planning, specifying when additional research is needed.
- Summarize the purpose and features of common estate planning documents and forms.
- Draft basic estate planning documents, including a will, revocable living trust, and durable power of attorney.
Continuing Education Information
You will be expected to spend an average of 8 hours per week reading and completing writing assignments. Please note that extensions will not be granted for this online course. 70% is the minimum passing score on all tests and assignments for this course. Students may consider working ahead in the curriculum if they have the time. Coursework in Estate Planning is equivalent to 45 clock hours of study.

Prerequisites
Successful completion of Paralegal I and II, or equivalent experience.
