What you’ll learn
This course offers you an in-depth overview of real property law, covering key topics such as the system of common law property, recording acts, conveyancing, mortgaging, landlord-tenant relationships, and land financing. You will learn to identify different estates in land, understand contracts related to land transactions, and interpret legal descriptions and deeds. The course also emphasizes the importance of title searches, recording statutes, and title insurance policies. Practical skills you will develop include drafting transaction timelines, recognizing the duties of real estate agents, and analyzing mortgage and foreclosure processes. Offered in partnership with CLS by BARBRI, this course prepares you to handle land transactions confidently and understand the legal frameworks that underpin real estate dealings.

Learning objectives
At the conclusion of this course, students should be able to:
- Analyze historical case studies to identify and explain the origins and development of common law property principles, demonstrating comprehension and critical thinking.
- Compare and contrast various estates in land by defining their names, characteristics, and legal effects, showcasing analysis and evaluation skills.
- Construct and interpret contracts used in property conveyance, applying understanding of key terms such as “Time is of the Essence” and demonstrating synthesis.
- Create detailed land descriptions and legal property descriptions from given scenarios, demonstrating application and creation.
- Explain the duties of real estate agents, licensing requirements, and the function of multiple listing services, illustrating comprehension and application.
- Examine and evaluate different types of deeds and title documents for proper form, language, and delivery in mock transactions, exhibiting analysis and evaluation.
Continuing Education Information
This is an accelerated course. You will be expected to spend an average of at least 8 hours per week reading and completing assignments. Please note that extensions will not be granted for this online course. This course is the equivalent of at least 45 clock hours of study. 70% is the minimum passing score on all tests and assignments for this course.

Successful completion of Paralegal Certificate Course, Part I (Paralegal 1 & 2), or the equivalent, or law office experience.
