About this camp
Are you passionate about animals, science, and conservation? Get ready to dive deep!
Explore the wonderful and wild aspects of the vertebrate world in this exciting, intensive camp covering all five vertebrate classes: fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals.
You will compare and contrast the anatomical and physiological aspects of representative vertebrate animals to discover evidence of how all organisms are related. We will perform hands-on dissections of fish, bullfrogs, snakes, and rats in a professional lab setting, learning proper lab safety protocols and comparative anatomy techniques. As you practice these lab skills, you will deepen your understanding and appreciation for the diversity of our animal kingdom.
But the learning doesn’t stay in the lab! Get ready for a real-world conservation project: working in small teams, you will select an animal at Bear Hollow Zoo, conduct in-depth research throughout the week, and deliver a final presentation at the zoo on Friday, right in front of your chosen animal’s exhibit!
