Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions
Why does the Center for Continuing Education offer programs for children?
Our mission is to support lifelong learning, whether that is through age-appropriate and developmentally sound programs for children or skills-based courses for adult learners.
Why are some of your youth programs age-based and others grade-based?
While some of our programs, such as Summer Bridge in Math , follow the common K-12 curriculum, delving into specific topics addressed at each grade level, others, such as Summer Academy, are extracurricular enrichment programs.
My child qualifies for free/reduced school lunch; do you offer any form of financial assistance for your programs?
Although we do not offer financial assistance for most of our youth programs, we are constantly trying to provide opportunities for students who might not otherwise be able to access our programs. To learn more, please contact our team at (706) 542-3537.

Summer Academy Questions
When do camps open for registration?
Enrollment for Summer Academy opens on February 1.
What information and materials do I need to register my child for a camp?
During the registration process, you will be asked to submit a medical form. Make sure you have your child’s insurance and medical information on hand.
How will I know what camps are available for enrollment?
All our Summer Academy camps are published directly on our website. During the enrollment window, we are constantly updating the status of our camps.
What can I do if my child’s desired camp is full?
When our camps fill, we open a waitlist. It is not uncommon for new spots to become open as registration progresses, so it is advisable to sign up for the camp’s waitlist as soon as possible, as any spots that become available are awarded in the order on the waitlist.
If my child is slightly outside of the age range of a camp, can I still sign them up?
While we understand it might be frustrating to not find the exact match, we strongly discourage signing up children who do not meet the camp’s age range, as all our camps are designed to be developmentally appropriate for campers within the given age range.
What do I do if I need to cancel my child’s participation in a camp?
Our registration team will be happy to explain the cancellation options available to you, as well as alternatives for enrolling in a different camp. You can reach out to them at (706) 542-3537 or gc-questions@uga.edu.

ACT/SAT Academy Questions
Are these courses taught by UGA faculty?
Although our amazing University of Georgia faculty are rockstars in higher education, they do not specialize in preparing high school students for standardized exams. That is why we have partnered with a third-party provider to ensure our students receive the best instruction possible for these specific exams.
Will enrolling in these courses improve the chances of acceptance at UGA?
While our courses can help students perform better on these standardized exams, the UGA admissions process is entirely separate and independent from these courses, and their completion will not impact admissions decisions in any way.
What’s the difference between the SAT and ACT?
Both the ACT and SAT are accepted by colleges, but they are different. Although both exams take approximately the same amount of time, the ACT has a quicker pace and has a separate optional science part. On the other hand, the SAT gives more time per question and combines data skills in all sections. The SAT’s math mainly involves algebra and problem-solving skills, while the ACT’s math includes geometry and trigonometry.
What do your courses offer that students can’t get for free?
While there are many free resources available, paid courses provide a more structured and personalized experience. Programs such as ours offer expert-led instruction, strategy-based approaches, and a set study schedule, greatly improving the learning outcomes of our students. In addition, we provide you with complimentary ACT/SAT strategy workshops to further support and prepare you for test day.
