Embark on a literary odyssey where the boundaries of reality dissolve, and the art of world-building takes center stage! Whether your narrative unfolds in realms beyond our own or is rooted in the familiar, the key to setting your story apart lies in crafting vibrant worlds, breathing life into three-dimensional characters, and seamlessly blending the rational laws of magic or futuristic technology. Join us for a week of creative writing, where you’ll learn how to world build like a pro. Each day of this immersive experience is a tapestry woven with hands-on activities, drawing inspiration from the strategies employed by bestselling authors and engage in collaborative workshops with fellow writers, delve into the intricacies of building rich and immersive worlds, and of course, savor moments dedicated to bringing your visions to life on the page. Through one-on-one and group writing workshops, you’ll learn the art of editing and revising, ensuring that by the end of the week, every participant in the program emerges with a vibrant world pulsating with narrative possibilities. Get ready to build worlds that captivate and stories that endure!

Location Info:

Classrooms are located around campus, and students may travel by foot, bus or university vehicle to get to classrooms or other camp activities. More details will be available in the welcome email sent out three weeks before camp begins.

Residential Camp – $1175

Prerequisites:
No prior writing or camp experience required, but students are encouraged to come in with an outline or a story idea to expand.

Instructor:

Kaitlin Bevis

Kaitlin Bevis spent her childhood curled up with a book and a pen. If the ending didn’t agree with her, she rewrote it. Because she’s always wanted to be a writer, she spent high school and college learning everything she could to achieve that goal. After graduating college with a BFA in English: Creative Writing, an MAT in English: Secondary Education, and an E.d.S in School Library Media, Kaitlin went on to write the bestselling Daughters of Zeus series. You can learn more about Kaitlin and her books at KaitlinBevis.com. This is Kaitlin’s seventh year as a Summer Academy instructor.

Elizabeth Sadler

Elizabeth Sadler loves to read and write adventure novels with fantasy elements. She holds an M.A. in English Literature from George Mason University, as well as an M.F.A. in writing popular fiction from Seton Hill University and has been published in New Myths and Separate Worlds. She currently resides in Athens, Georgia, where she teaches British Literature to unsuspecting seniors. This is Elizabeth’s fourth year as a Summer Academy Instructor.
