Managing Your Own Professional Development

This session is designed to help PSO staff and faculty think strategically about their professional growth. Participants will be introduced to the GROW model (Greatest assets, Room for improvement, Outcomes, and What will it take?) and learn how it can be used to create an effective and personalized individual development plan. This session will also explore the value of education, experience and exposure as key strategies for growth and provide an overview of university resources available to PSO staff, including the Tuition Assistance Program (TAP), the Professional Education Portal (PEP), LinkedIn Learning, Continuing Education at the Georgia Center and development programs offered by Public Service and Outreach.

Learning outcomes:

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Think strategically about their individual professional development
  • Understand how individual development planning connects to the UGA Staff Competency Model
  • Identify resources and tools that support the creation of an individual development plan

Jennifer Duncan holds a bachelor’s degree in English and a master’s in learning, leadership, and organization development from UGA, where she also earned her coaching certification. She is passionate about helping individuals discover their natural talents and invest in personal growth. Her expertise includes education, executive coaching, leadership, personal development and well-being. Duncan believes that confidence, connection and community are the foundations for meaningful growth.
