Mentoring for Professional Growth: Building Strong Connections in PSO

This session is designed for PSO faculty and staff to highlight the value of mentoring at every stage of a career. Participants will explore how mentoring strengthens collaboration, fosters professional growth, and creates a culture of engagement within PSO units and colleges. This session will also cover best practices for initiating and sustaining mentoring partnerships, strategies for effective mentor/mentee relationships, and resources available at UGA to support these connections. The goal is to empower faculty and staff to leverage mentoring as a tool for career development and knowledge sharing.

Learning outcomes:

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the benefits of mentoring across career stages
  • Learn practical strategies for starting and maintaining mentoring relationships
  • Gain knowledge of UGA mentoring resources for faculty and staff
  • Explore tools and strategies to support successful mentoring partnerships
  • Identify ways to foster a culture of mentoring within PSO and academic units

Jeremy Daniel Headshot

Jeremy Daniel, Public Service Assistant, Carl Vinson Institute of Government

Jeremy Daniel has served at the University of Georgia for over a decade in a variety of roles and currently works as a Public Service Assistant at the Carl Vinson Institute of Government. The former director of the UGA Mentor Program, he now manages UGA’s CyberArch program and was named to Georgia Trend’s 40 Under 40 list in 2023. He holds multiple degrees from UGA, including an M.Ed. in Higher Education Administration, Ph.D. in Workforce Education, Graduate Certificate in Education Law and Policy and an M.B.A. expected in 2026. Outside of work, Daniel is active in his community as a mentor and board member of the Clarke County Mentor Program, and as a board member of Family Promise of Athens.

Jennifer Duncan, Senior Manager, Learning and Development, Human Resources

Jennifer Duncan holds a bachelor’s degree in English and a master’s in learning, leadership, and organization development from UGA, where she also earned her coaching certification. She is passionate about helping individuals discover their natural talents and invest in personal growth. Her expertise includes education, executive coaching, leadership, personal development and well-being. Duncan believes that confidence, connection and community are the foundations for meaningful growth.
