Exploring Environmental Science

Do you enjoy the outdoors and learning about nature? Are you interested in pursuing a career in environmental sciences? In this weekend intensive course, you’ll meet and learn with professionals in a variety of environmental fields, including horticulture, conservation, herpetology, botany, and more. Through videos, interviews with experts, and follow along activities, we will virtually explore the State Botanical Garden grounds and learn about the diverse ecosystems found in this part of the Georgia Piedmont and in your own backyard. Join us as we learn about the wonders of nature and gain valuable insights into careers as future environmental stewards.

Students will be using UGA’s eLearning Common and Collaborate Ultra for this course. Students will be e-mailed their access information one week before the program and will be able to log-in to their program each day at 8:45 a.m.

Instructor: 

Cora Keber (B.S. University of Kentucky 2001) is the Director of Education at The State Botanical Garden of Georgia in Athens since September 2007. Her responsibilities include programming for adults and children and also maintains partnerships with University of Georgia departments and local and state-wide organizations. The adult programs include the Certificate in Native Plants program, symposia, series program and Evening and After Hours programs. She works in collaboration Children’s Program Manager to teach and plan field trips for grades pre-K through secondary grade levels and co-directing summer camp programs, school day-off programs and family festivals. The children’s programs are correlated with the GA Performance Standards and focus on nature connection and scientific observation through puppetry, storytelling and outdoor exploration. She is the President for the Environmental Education Alliance of Georgia Board of Directors and is Secretary for the Keep Athens-Clarke County Beautiful Board of Directors. Keber is pursuing her Master of Arts in Nonprofit Organization at the University of Georgia with an expected graduation date December 2018. In her non-work time, she teaches Zumba, is a dance company member at DanceFX, and enjoys time with loved ones and time outdoors.

Audrey Stadler has been the Children's Program Coordinator at the State Botanical Garden of Georgia since February 2020. After graduating with a BS in Forest Resources with an emphasis in Wildlife Biology, she worked as a park assistant at Memorial Park, various animal care and outreach positions at Bear Hollow Zoo, and in the Clarke County School District as a substitute teacher. Before coming to the garden she was an Environmental Education Program Specialist at Rock Eagle 4-H Center from 2017-2020, where she taught classes on ecology, history, and team building, while also managing the center's gift shop and pools. She comes with much enthusiasm for the garden and its programs and is greatly looking forward to camp season!
