Setting Career Goals and Using UGA Resources
Professional Development Session 2
This session focuses on helping staff take an active role in their professional development by setting meaningful career goals and identifying resources to support those goals. Participants will learn why career goal-setting is essential, how to create SMART career goals, and how to recognize the skills, experiences, and learning opportunities needed to advance. The session also introduces key UGA tools and resources, such as TAP and LinkedIn Learning, that can help staff build skills and support long-term career growth.
Learning outcomes:
- Understand the importance of setting career goals and how goals provide direction and purpose for professional development
- Create SMART career goals that are specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-based
- Recognize skills, experiences, and resources needed to achieve career objectives, including training and learning opportunities
- Utilize UGA tools and resources, such as the TAP program and LinkedIn Learning, to build the skills that support career advancement
Speaker:
Jennifer Duncan, Senior Manager, Learning and Development, Human Resources
Duncan holds a bachelor’s degree in English and a master’s degree in learning, leadership, and organization development from UGA, where she also earned her coaching certification. She is passionate about helping individuals discover their natural talents and invest in personal growth. Her expertise includes education, executive coaching, leadership, personal development and well-being. Duncan believes that confidence, connection and community are the foundations for meaningful growth.
